Meet the club

Coast Cycling Club is brand new. We started with a simple idea: that riding is better with company, and that the Hibiscus Coast is one of the best places anywhere to do it. Based in Silverdale, we're a growing community of riders who love getting out on two wheels — salt air, open road, and the coastal scenery of Tāmaki Makaurau's northern shores.

We're proudly local. The Hibiscus Coast is more than just where we ride — it's who we are. From the rolling hills above Waiwera and the gravel roads of Tahekeroa to the coastal roads winding through Orewa and beyond, our backyard offers some of the best cycling in the Auckland region. We're here to explore every metre of it, together.

What we stand for

We're a club for everyone — first-timers, returning riders, social spinners, and racers chasing a personal best. We believe riding is better shared, and we're building a club that's as welcoming as it is ambitious.

Our committee

The club is led by a volunteer committee of local riders — here's who's steering things.

Our story

Every club starts somewhere. Ours began with a conversation in a bike shop.

On 21 April 2026, Seti Afoa — Director of the Tour of Sāmoa and a Hibiscus Coast local — dropped into the GMC Cycling shop in Silverdale and put a question to Gordon McCauley:

"What do you think about a cycling club up here on the Coast?"

"Great," Gordon said. "I think it would serve a real purpose. We need one up here."

That was all it took. The same day, the word went out to riders and supporters across the Coast — and the response was immediate and overwhelmingly positive. It turned out a lot of people had been waiting for exactly this.

Things moved fast from there. Within eleven days, the club was officially incorporated with the NZ Companies Office. By mid-May the notice had gone out for the Special General Meeting to formally launch the club and elect its first committee — and the club's name, branding, and website came together in the same breath.

From a shop-floor chat to a fully-fledged club in just five weeks.

Special General Meeting

Twenty prospective members attended the SGM at the Ōrewa Community Centre. Interim President Gordon welcomed those present before handing over to Seti, who chaired the meeting. During the session, the club was formally established, and the executive and committee members were duly elected.

The club even had a guest from the top of the sport: Tony Mitchell — President of the Oceania Cycling Confederation and a UCI Management Committee member — joined by video call to congratulate the new club on its launch.

Founding members

Coast Cycling Club was started by a group of local riders who believed the Coast needed a club of its own. We'll introduce them properly here soon — for now, our thanks to every one of them for getting us rolling.
